The R T Vue is a next generation ocular coherence tomographer (OCT) allowing "histology like" retinal image. The human eye can only see the surface of the retina. The OCT allows the optometrist/opthamologist to go deeper into the retina and view the various layers of the retina in 3D.

 

The R T Vue is a next generation Fourier-Domain OCT using CCD camera to acquire raw A-scan data and, coupled with fast CCD camera frame transfer rate and fast Fourier transform algorithm, the R T Vue OCT can perform 26,000 A-scan per second.These ultra high speed and high resolution features enables the clinician to visualise the retinal tissue with ultra high clarity, in a fraction of a second.

The procedure is non-invasive and painless. The use of OCT is to diagnose and monitor age related macular degeneration. The instrument can be utilised to differentiate between wet and dry macula degeneration. Also,with the help of this high resolution equipment, it is possible to see how patients with wet macula degeneration are responding to treatment.

The OCT is also a valuable tool in monitoring glaucoma patients.
